Bakery Review: Lelysee Bakery

Lelysee is one of the better Asian bakeries in Asiatown. This place has a great selection of breads and pastries. We come here mainly for their U Ta Ne bread, which seems to be a popular item here. A sign claims that this bread is made utilizing a unique baking method, during which the dough is ‘changed from acid to alkaline during processing’. I couldn’t find any further info on this, but the bread does have an extremely soft and chewy texture, and like many Asian breads, is sliced much thicker than typical supermarket store bread loaves. It makes for some delicious sandwiches!

We’ve also tried the Char Shu Bao, An Pan, and Hot Dog Rolls, which are all quite good. Most of their items seem to use that same type of U Ta Ne bread dough, with that soft, chewy texture.

As for their desserts, I’ve only tried the taro cake, which had a wonderful and almost nutty taro flavor, without being overly sweet.

Definitely one of my favorite bakeries in town, and I’ll keep going back for that bread!
