Ronald’s Donuts

Okay. Let me start by saying that I’m not and never have been a huge donut fan. But I’d heard good things about this place, and I’m always willing to try something that’s supposedly really good, even if it’s not really my thing, and especially if it’s in my own backyard! I am impressed that this is apparently one of the few donut shops in existence that specializes in making vegan donuts. People apparently come from all over the Southwest US to get these. The top two shelves in this shop are exclusively vegan, but I swear you’d never know the difference!
The shop itself is a little hole-in-the-wall place in the middle of Chinatown. We went after a great lunch at Pho Kim Long. Since we were already full, we only picked up 4 donuts. Two glazed, one jelly filled, and one apple fritter. All of them were fantastic… light, airy, and neither overly greasy or overly sweet. You know how sometimes Krispy Kremes can be so sweet they make your teeth hurt? These don’t do that! So from a pretty much non donut eater, I give this place a thumbs up!
